I’m writing a book!
A few months ago, an editor at Hutchinson Heinemann reached out to me and asked me whether I’d ever considered writing a book for a wider audience. In fact, ever since my podcast Studies in Taylor Swift ended in early 2023, I had been thinking non-stop about writing a book on Taylor Swift and literature. I wanted to expand on the close readings I did in my podcast, explain how thinking about Taylor Swift as literature allowed us to think about the field of literature in more useful ways, and generally try to understand the experience of studying Taylor Swift at a moment when it felt like she was everywhere in the news and popular discourse. That’s how Dear Reader: Taylor Swift and the Idea of English Literature was born. But it won’t be out until early 2026!
Meanwhile, I’m coming across all sorts of interesting ideas, having some weird ideas of my own, and generally marinating in Swift content. Hence…
