I’m an academic with a PhD in English and Renaissance Studies, but I’ve pivoted in recent years to the study of Taylor Swift. I designed and teach a class called “Taylor Swift and Literature” at Queen Mary University of London, I ran a podcast for a few years called Studies in Taylor Swift that’s still available on most podcast platforms, and I’m writing a book of literary criticism for a popular audience: From the Vault: Studies in Taylor Swift and English Literature, out in 2026. From the Vault argues that applying the methods and insights of the field of English literature to Swift’s work shows us that Swift is a complex and nuanced artist and that English is a vital and approachable subject that can help us understand both the world and ourselves.

This newsletter brings together my analysis of Swift’s work and her public perception, reviews of books and other media about Swift, recommended readings from other people, and updates on the book and my other projects. Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and publication archives.

I'm writing a book on how Taylor Swift and the study of English can shed light on one another - but there's too much to say about Swift (and literature) to fit in one book!
